Privacy

The European Union believes that people don’t want a bunch of legal jargon in the privacy policies and terms and conditions documents of websites they like to use.  We agree.

We care about our visitors and web site users and want you to have a good experience on our site.  We don’t need or want to stalk you around the Internet and sell your personal information.  On the contrary, we will never sell your personally identifiable information.

But here’s the deal, just like when you walk into the store and the person at the checkout counter can see that you are wearing a blue tie or baseball hat, there is some just stuff that our website will know about you just because you visited us.

This Privacy Policy explains and governs the manner in which Silverexchange.com collects, uses, maintains and discloses information collected from users (each, a “User”) of the http://www.Silverexchange.com website (“Site”). In other words we want to tell you who we are, what information we gather and how we gather it and what we do with it.

This privacy policy applies to Silverexchange.com.

A couple of Notes: We use the terms User, User’s and you and your interchangeably here as a matter of convenience.

This website does not target residents of the European Union.

We are governed by United States Law.

We may collect personally identifiable information (PII) from Users in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to,

  1. when Users visit our site,
  2. when Users register on the site,
  3. when Users place an order,
  4. when Users fill out a form,
  5. when Users respond to a survey, and
  6. in connection with other activities, services, features or resources we make available on our Site.

If you email us, we want to reply to your comment or concerns, so you may be asked for, as appropriate, a name, email address, mailing address, or phone number.  The same thing goes for when a User orders something from us like directory upgrade or advertising campaign.  When a User calls us, we’ll need the User’s phone number to call them back.

Users may certainly visit our Site anonymously. We will collect personal identification information from Users only if they voluntarily submit such information to us. You can always refuse to supply personally identifiable information.  Just be aware that it may prevent you from engaging in certain Site related activities or otherwise affect your experience.

Non-personally identifiable information

We may collect non-personally identifiable information (non-PII) about Users whenever they interact with our Site. Non-PII may include the browser name, the type of computer and technical information about Users means of connection to our Site, such as the operating system and the Internet service providers utilized and other similar information.

This information comes primarily from our web analytics providers like Google Analytics.  Knowing how many people visit the site, what time of day, and where they come from helps us know what we are doing well and what we need to improve on.  Knowing this analytics information also helps us concentrate on the content and experience our Users want from us.  You can learn more about Google Analytic’s own privacy policy here. https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=en

Our web servers also keep log files with information like IP addresses, entrance page, exit page, and other non-PII which we aggregate to determine trends, technical information about the performance of the site, and to help keep the site safe.

Web browser cookies

Yes, we use web browser cookies.

Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to a User’s computer hard drive through their Web browser (if they allow) that enable the site’s or service provider’s systems to recognize their browser and capture and remember certain information.   Cookies can be used to help us understand User’s preferences that are based on previous or current site activity, which enables us to provide them with improved services. We also use cookies to help us compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interaction so that we can offer better site experiences and tools in the future.

 We use cookies to:

  1. Keep track of advertisements.
  2. To keep track of user actions. For instance, in order to keep poll results more accurate, when someone votes we set a cookie and/or keep track of that voter’s IP address so we count their vote only once.
  3. Compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interactions in order to offer better site experiences and tools in the future. We may also use trusted third-party services like Google Analytics that track this information on our behalf.
  4. For our User’s security. For example, if a User has an account and they login from a device that we don’t recognize, we may send the User an email to make sure it is really them trying to login.

Users can choose to have their computer warn them each time a cookie is being sent, or they can choose to turn off all cookies. Users do this through their browser settings. Since browser is a little different, look at your browser’s Help Menu to learn the correct way to modify your cookies.

Silverexchange.com is largely ad supported.  It costs a lot of money to run a website like this and rather than charge you for access, we have chosen to display ads.

Some of our partners, like Google Adsense, Tribal Fusion, Criteo, Media.net, FinancialContent.com, and MaxPreps may also use cookies to track Users.  Users can check each one of their privacy policies by clicking on their name.  Most of their cookies are to provide Users better ads that are closely aligned to your interests.

If Users disable cookies in their browser, that’s cool.  We understand.  But be aware that some of the features of the site may not work very well if you do.

We may also use web beacons, and clear single pixel gifs.  Both of these technologies function similarly to cookies and for the same purposes.

How we use the information we collect

This may all seem pretty obvious, but in the interest of transparency, Silverexchange.com may collect and use Users personal information for the following purposes:

  • To run and operate our Site
We may need your information to display content on the Site correctly.
  • To improve customer service
Information you provide helps us respond to your customer service requests and support needs more efficiently.
  • To improve our Site
We appreciate your feedback and may use it to improve our products and services.
  • To process payments
We may use the information Users provide about themselves when placing an order only to provide service to that order. We do not share this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to provide the service or as required by law.
  • To run a promotion, contest, survey or other Site feature
We may send Users information they agreed to receive about topics we think will be of interest to them.
  • To send periodic emails
We may use the email address to send User information and updates pertaining to their order. It may also be used to respond to their inquiries, questions, and/or other requests.

How we protect your information

We adopt appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of your personal information, username, password, transaction information and data stored on our Site.

We use third-party financial processors like Pay-Pal and Stripe and do not store your financial information on our web server.

Sharing your personal information

We do not sell, trade, or rent Users’ personally identifiable information to others. We may share generic aggregated demographic information not linked to any personally identifiable information regarding visitors and Users with our business partners, trusted affiliates and advertisers for the purposes outlined above.

Rarely, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law wherein we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on the site.

Third party websites

Users may find advertising or other content on our Site that links to the sites and services of our partners, suppliers, advertisers, sponsors, licensors and other third parties. We do not control the content or links that appear on these sites and are not responsible for the practices employed by websites linked to or from our Site. In addition, these sites or services, including their content and links, may be constantly changing. These sites and services may have their own privacy policies and customer service policies. Browsing and interaction on any other website, including websites which have a link to our Site, is subject to that website’s own terms and policies.

Advertising

Ads appearing on our site may be delivered to Users by advertising partners, who may set cookies. These cookies allow the ad server (ours or a third-party’s) to recognize your computer each time they send you an online advertisement to compile non personal identification information about you or others who use your computer. In addition to how we use it, this information allows ad networks to, among other things, deliver targeted advertisements that they believe will be of most interest to you. This privacy policy does not cover the use of cookies by any advertisers.

You may learn more about opting out of major ad networks at

http://optout.networkadvertising.org/.

You can also click on the little blue Ad Choices carrot in the upper right hand corner of most ads to opt out of their programs.

Silverexchange.com has an ad server but, it does not track Users around the Internet.  It is used primarily to make sure that we don’t show you the same ad on Silverexchange.com like 100 times in a row.   We also use it for general aggregate statistics.  For instance, by comparing page views from Google Analytics with ad impressions on the ad server for a certain period of time we can more easily trouble-shoot technical problems with the site.

Other third-party content

In some cases some of our content partners send us information automatically by the use of their technology on our site.  This content may also employ web beacons, clear single-pixel gifs and cookies.  For instance, when you share a story on Facebook or other social media through one of the widgets or links that they provide us, or when you book a hotel room through technology provided by our partner, they may use these technologies to improve your experience and for safety purposes.  We cannot control nor are we responsible how these partners use their cookies and other technology.

Google Adsense

Some of the ads may be served by Google through Adsense and other programs.   Google’s use of the DART cookie enables it to serve ads to Users based on their visit to our Site and other sites on the Internet. DART uses “non personally identifiable information” and does NOT track personal information about you, such as your name, email address, physical address, etc. You may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy policy at http://www.google.com/privacy_ads.html

Other advertisers like Criteo use similar technologies to show you ads based on your non-personally identifiable information to provide you ads that they believe you will be more interested in.

California Online Privacy Protection Act

CalOPPA is the first state law in the nation to require commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. The law’s reach stretches well beyond California to require any person or company in the United States (and conceivably the world) that operates websites collecting Personally Identifiable Information from California consumers to post a conspicuous privacy policy on its website stating exactly the information being collected and those individuals or companies with whom it is being shared. – See more at: http://consumercal.org/california-online-privacy-protection-act-caloppa/#sthash.0FdRbT51.dpuf

Accordance with CalOPPA, we agree to the following:

In addition to what we have mentioned above, once this privacy policy is created, we will add a link to it on our home page or as a minimum, on the first significant page after entering our website.

Our Privacy Policy link includes the word ‘Privacy’ and can easily be found on the page specified above.

You will be notified of any Privacy Policy changes:

  • On our Privacy Policy Page

Can change your personal information:

  • By emailing us
  • By chatting with us or by sending us a support ticket

Keep in mind that we will need to be able to determine that the person we are communicating with is the same person from whom changes to this data are being made.

COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act)

We feel that protecting the privacy of the very young is especially important. For that reason, we never collect or maintain information at our Site from those we actually know are under 13, and no part of our website is structured to attract anyone under 13.  The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) puts parents in control.

Just be aware that, while we do not market to anyone under the age of 13 years old, unless Users tell us, we don’t know their age.  Because we let third-parties, including ad networks or plugins use cookies and sometimes track IP addresses to make their and our services better, it is possible that a child under the age of 13 who is on our site could be tracked too.

Fair Information Practices:

We will take the following responsive action, should a data breach occur:

We will notify the users via in-site notification, usually within 72 hours of discovery of a breach.

We will contact users for whom we have Personally Identifiable Information, like a phone number or email address, via email if a breach should occur.

Changes to this privacy policy

Silverexchange.com has the discretion to update this privacy policy at any time. When we do, we will post a notification on the main page of our Site and revise the updated date at the bottom of this page. We encourage Users to frequently check this page for any changes to stay informed about how we are helping to protect the personal information we collect. You acknowledge and agree that it is your responsibility to review this privacy policy periodically and become aware of modifications.

Your acceptance of these terms

By using this Site, you signify your acceptance of this policy. If you do not agree to this policy, please do not use our Site. Your continued use of the Site following the posting of changes to this policy will be deemed your acceptance of those changes.
